The Genesis

When approaching an unfamiliar situation, most try to observe, analyze, learn and execute.

This was exactly the case when I truly started dipping my feet into the derivatives/equities market and how I approached learning how to trade options.

Except I didn’t do anything but observe in the beginning 🧐

As a 15-year-old teenager that had just gotten smoked in a stock trading competition, I didn’t really have any experience with trading contracts or navigating the complex mechanisms associated with options.

Reflecting now, this fear of concept evolved into a scared state where I was just a lurker that was aware of its presence but didn’t take any initiative to truly grasp and understand the topic at a high level.

I was scared of what a call did and not knowing how a put matures over time.

But eventually…

The Exodus

As a kid that grew up watching Youtube videos in kindergarten all the way until now, Youtube was the most obvious resource when trying to learn about any topic. I thought I would give options another try as I was interested but not motivated.

However, this time instead of observing Youtube ad scams that promised 500% returns in a year, I was explicitly trying to find content on mechanisms and not strategies.

Strategies are great as they can help accomplish tasks efficiently, but I knew that a foundation was critical to future success.

After hours of eye-stressing content, I was unsatisfied with my progress and ability to find and actually reputable channels to learn from 🙁

Even though I don’t want to discount the channels I viewed, they didn’t seem to present any analytical information or how things worked behind the scene.

Instead, most content was very broad/straightforward (can be a good thing) and felt like spoonfeeding with no food.

I decided to click one more video on my explore page and that video changed my life.

That’s when I found TastyTrade.

Life: Changing

The first video I viewed from TastyTrade was of a 16-year-old girl named Nisha being featured for their Rising Stars segment 🤩

Despite having not traded an option in my life, I was instantly hooked as the reliability factor kicked in piquing my interest.

Nisha talked about how she first started trading, trading environments, favorite trades, and future plans.

After this video, I immediately searched up TastyTrade on Google and went down the hole of researching Tasty’s team 🔎

Turns out that the two hosts I watched (Tom and Nick) were both real traders at the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) backed by decades of constant market observation and experience.

Furthermore, Tom Sosnoff was the creator of think or swim, a revolutionary trading platform sold to TD-Ameritrade for 750 million dollars.

This fact almost made my brain fall out of my head.

I continued binging TastyTrade videos which include their segments Market Measures, Options Jive, Options Crash Course, and finally Mike and his Whiteboard.

From then I officially became a part of the tasty nation 💪

Star of the Show ⭐️

That being said, during the spring I decided to rewatch some of the old rising star videos from 2017 and 2018.

This act eventually led me to the great idea of being featured as a future star for TastyTrade.

From there, I got in contact with Tom through a virtual zoom talking about different theta-based options strategies.

Through this encounter, I was able to obtain Tom’s contact info and the rest is history ⏰

Pre-show, I was able to talk with the TastyTrade team, discuss my background, how I got into the trading community, my trading journey, and how I actually trade.

In addition, I was finally able to meet so many like-minded individuals around my age. Participants included mostly incoming juniors/seniors in high school and one college student (📣 shoutout 📣 Nwachukwu you’re frikin lit bro, hopefully I can attend IU Kelley in the future!!)

We were able to talk about how trading impacted our lives and how this hobby has spiraled into an “addiction”. It was definitely eye-opening seeing clones of myself on zoom and listening to the familiar yet unique story each person portrayed.

Overall, the experience was a 10/10 and I’m so glad to have been able to talk with Tom, Tony, and everyone at TastyTrade!!
